El 18 de mayo tuvimos el placer de recibir al Sr. Marcelo Papa, padre de dos alumnos de nuestro Colegio quien dió una charla a los alumnos de 6º y 7º grado acerca de los peligros de la Red Social.
Finalizada la misma, los alumnos escribieron acerca de las ventajas del avance de la tecnología cibernética. Agradecemos al Sr. Papa por haber compartido con nuestros niños un tema tan importante en la sociedad moderna. He aquí algunos de los trabajos:

Social Media

Social media is the new technology that we use all the time. It has advantages and disadvantages.
Firstly, social media helps us to communicate with people all around the world. Also, we can have information about somebody or something in only a few minutes.
However, new technology can be dangerous if you don’t act carefully; hackers can access your computer and ruin your and your family’s reputation and they can send viruses to your computer.
In my opinion, new technology is good but you sould not use it too much. It can be dangerous if used many hours per day.

The pros and cons of new technology

New technology has advantages and disadvantages.
There are several arguments in favour of new technology. To begin with, it is very easy to find useful information in a very few seconds. Furthermore, you can chat with your friends all around the world by using your cellphone or your computer.
However, there are also disadvantages to new technology. Firstly, hackers can access your personal information, for example, your name, your surname, your address, your credit card number, or find out if you are alone at home.
Cyber bullying can seriously damage your name and reputation.

The pros and cons of new technology

Some people think new technology is a very dangerous tool. While others see it as a fantastic way of learning new things. Whatever your views, there is no doubt that new technology is a great issue with many advantages and disadvantages.
There are several arguments in favour of the use of modern technology. To begin with, new technology such as cellphones or computers are quicker than the traditional ways of communication, eg. letters. Furthermore, it is very easy to find lots of useful information in a few seconds. For instance, just with a click your words travel very fast across continents. You can contact a friend in another country without moving from your chair!
However, there are also a number of disadvantages to new technology. Firstly, hackers can get your personal information such as your name, address, age, parents’ names, credit card number, etc. In addition, people do not know the impact of what they upload on the Internet or social networks. It can be used as a type of cyber bullying. Your name, your reputation and even your family honour can be seriously damaged forever.
To conclude, I believe that although modern technology can sometimes prevent people from having physical contact or it can be a little bit dangerous, it is worth it. If you know how to use it correctly and personalize the security system it is a great tool that can make people’s lives more comfortable, quicker and easier.

Do you have a profile on social networks?

* Control the list of your friends. Always adjust the security settings to your desired level of privacy to share only what you choose and who with.

* Don’t accept friends’ request from contacts you don’t know. Take into account that by accepting someone as a friend, they immediately have access to your data, photos and contact list.

* Think before you post or share personal information about yourself and your friends, specially the kind that could be used to identify or locate an internet user outside: address, telephone number, photos of your house, etc.

* Block and report anyone who sends unwanted or inappropriate messages.

* Report users and content that violate the Terms of Use.
